GBG investigates a wide range of structures from historically significant buildings to small private residences; all of which require expert appraisal and attention to detail when assessing their construction and condition. Some of our more notable projects include: The Foreign & Commonwealth Office; Somerset House; Aston Villa FC; Cambridge University; Lord Mayors Coach; Scarborough Pier; Tate Modern; and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Our History

GB Geotechnics was established in 1982 by George Ballard specialising in geophysical, environmental and structural investigation. The company has expanded in the provision of non-destructive testing and offers a holistic approach to building remediation investigation and consultancy.

The company has expanded from the original office in Cambridge to include satellite offices in Perth (Australia), New York (USA), Los Angeles (USA) and Watford (UK). The acquisition of Technotrade in Watford in 2003 expanded the company’s ability to carry out in-situ structural investigation to complement the myriad of non-destructive techniques already being offered to clients.

Much of GBG’s work involves heritage projects and buildings and monuments of historical importance. Recently GBG have been working on various projects at The Houses of Parliament as part of the Refurbishment & Restoration project as well as the on the Northern Estate Programme.
GBG continues to expand and provide holistic approaches to structural investigation and remediation design.

George Ballard’s love of renewable energy has led to many investigations into windfarms across UK, Europe and as far as Thailand. With an in-house geotechnical team and structural engineering division GBG can provide consultancy through all stages of ground investigation and structural design.
