Chemical Testing

A range of chemical tests can be carried out to identify properties of materials. Of these tests some require nothing more than an exposure of a surface whilst others require sample material to be collected (often as dust or small fragments) and taken to a testing laboratory for analysis. Where appropriate the laboratories that carry out the tests are UKAS accredited.

Chemical tests can be used to determine the alkali content, depth of carbonation, cement content, the presence of high alumina cement, sulphate and ratios of water and cement.
